Created by the brilliant Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro and his brother Feliciano Bordallo Pinheiro on the 30th of June 1884, the brand still reproduces some of his original designs, now combined with contemporary pieces that always have a connection with the heritage of the brand.

It was his son Manuel Bordallo Pinheiro that defined his mission in life to continue the legacy of his father and helped to carry the brand to the present.

Raphael began his career in graphic design and his satirical cartoons that pictured the Portuguese society of the time. But as a multi-disciplinary artist, his form of expression gained another dimension when he started to make ceramics and decorative objects.

Animal and plant kingdoms were the main sources of inspiration, and he certainly honored both through his creations. Who doesn’t know his famous swallows, frogs, cats, and the extremely detailed cabbages that brought life to the kitchens and dinner tables at our grandmothers' houses?

The same cabbages are now celebrated all over the world, in their original version or contemporary Editions.
